I find, this early draft is still sounding like chiptunes quite a lot. There are also no speech samples. Additionally, the modulation in the second part is missing. The strange transition at 3:35 is a kind of a placeholder, just like the various ornamentations.
But the structure, the overall atmosphere and the actual arrangement are all already there. Personally, I find all of this very charming even though it is still so crude. Or perhaps just because of that… I find, you can also tell that I had a lot of fun with all these chiptune sounds.
The theme of the early draft is in a way quite catchy, perhaps even an earworm. But over time I just found it to annoying. I reckoned I probably could do this still better. That’s why I came up with a new theme that, however, was based on the old theme.
The mix is of course still completely in the early stages. In case you’re wondering why it took me so long to mix the piece: this is about how it sounded before I started mixing.
If I had only wanted to make a chiptune then I only would have had to clean up the early draft and I would’ve been done. However, my goal was to do a complete production. That’s why I had to buckle down for the mix quite a bit.
